Man United poised to become first club to earn more than £1bn in Premier League prize money
Man United will become the first club to earn £1bn in Premier League prize money next season after research commissioned by Spreadex revealed the all-time top flight prize money table from the last 24 seasons.
The Red Devils, who are set to announce Jose Mourinho as their new manager this week, will surpass the eye-watering sum if they achieve at least a 6th place Premier League finish next season.
The study found that United winning 13 Premier League titles titles over the period has seen them pick up £870.3m, with Arsenal in second place with £842.8m and Liverpool in third with £815.4m.
The rest of the top six is made up by Chelsea (£815.4m), Spurs (£750.3m) and Man City (£723.5m).
Despite winning the title this season, Premier League champions Leicester are only 25th on the list, having earned £247.7m in prize payments – £93.2m received during this season alone.
Although falling on hard times this year, the league’s bottom club Aston Villa are ninth on the all-time list, with £649.2m paid to the Villa Park club over the 24-year period.
All prize money data from the study was taken from official Premier League reports since 1993, sourced via sportingintelligence.com
