Armed forces minister: UK 'unable to stop Turkey joining EU'
Turkey will join the EU and the UK is powerless to stop it, the Minister for the Armed Forces Penny Mordaunt has claimed.
Speaking on The Andrew Marr Show, the Leave campaigner denied the UK would have a veto on any Turkish accession to the EU.
But David Cameron refuted her claims, telling Peston on Sunday that Turkey joining the EU is not "remotely on the cards".
The armed forces minister also criticsed the 'Britain Strong In Europe' campaign for trying to "frighten" people into voting to remain in the EU.
The MP for Portsmouth North also rubbished the suggestion that neighbouring countries would stop working with Britain if it voted to leave the EU, and denied that a vote to leave would 'fragment the west'.
