Bosses 'urged to warn workers of Brexit risks'

Firms have been told by Britain's leading business group to write to their employees providing them with information about the EU referendum, whichever side of the debate they are on.

The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has urged dozens of businesses communicate with workers across the UK about the implications of a British exit from the European Union.

CBI Director General Carolyn Fairbairn insisted it was "not about telling people how to vote" but rather a move by "responsible business leaders" to explain to staff "what impact a Brexit would have on company growth, their jobs and their communities".

The group said CBI members employing over 800,000 workers have already talked to staff about the implications of Brexit and that feedback had been positive.

The CBI represents 190,000 businesses in the UK.
