Reports Lady Gaga to star in new Cilla Black film are false
Reports that Lady Gaga is to play Cilla Black in a film about the life of soul singer Dionne Warwick are false, the star's representatives have confirmed.
Earlier on Friday, rumours circulated the singer would star in the biopic, Dionne, which will touch on the rivalry between the US soul singer and Liverpudlian singer and TV star Black, who died last year at the age of 72.
But now the report has been quashed.
A UK spokesperson for Gaga said: "Lady Gaga is not attached and will not appear in this project. Reports of Lady Gaga starring in this project are false".
Earlier on Friday, Warwick had announced details of the film and its cast at a press conference at the Cannes film festival.
Lady Gaga's name had even appeared on a poster for the film unveiled at the festival.
And representatives for Black were convinced as well that Gaga would be taking up the role.
Representatives for the late star's estate said earlier today: "We think Lady Gaga is fabulous. She’s a great actress and we really look forward to seeing her portrayal."
The biopic, based on Warwick's autobiography, will cover an early period in her career in the 1960s.
Former Destiny's Child singer LeToya Luckett will play Warwick, while Danny Glover will play her father.
Bad Romance singer Lady Gaga has turned to acting over the past two years, starring in US television series American Horror Story.
Black has also been played by Sheridan Smith in Cilla, a TV movie about her rise to fame.
