Commonwealth Games judo star Stephanie Inglis in a coma after Vietnam motorcycle accident

A Scottish Commonwealth Games medallist is fighting for her life in a coma after being seriously injured in motorcycle accident in Vietnam.

Judo athlete Stephanie Inglis, 27, fell off a bike in the north-east of the country, where she had travelled to teach English.

Inglis, who won silver at the 2014 Games in Glasgow, suffered head injuries and is now being treated in intensive care.

Her parents have flown into Vietnam from Inverness to be at her bedside.

Inglis's sister Stacey told the BBC: "Mum and dad are just distraught - they just want her to be alive and get back here.

"At the minute, the hospital is monitoring her, but they've said her whole brain is injured, and it will be a long recovery if she pulls through. At the moment we're sitting tight and keeping our fingers crossed."

Fellow judo athlete Khalid Gehlan has set up a fundraising campaign to help pay for Inglis's medical costs. More than £38,000 was raised in just nine hours.
