Ted Cruz accidentally punches and elbows wife in face after dropping out of presidential race

Ted Cruz may have dropped out of the presidential race but he is still making headlines after he was caught on camera accidentally punching and elbowing wife Heidi in the face after making his concession speech.

In an embarrassing on-stage moment the Texas Senator awkwardly went in for a double hug with his father Rafael and Heidi after announcing he was suspending his campaign but ended up hitting his wife in the face instead.

Clipping Mrs Cruz first with his fist and then his elbow, it ends up being third time lucky for Cruz as he finally manages to get his arm around Heidi in a proper embrace.

But Twitter users were quick to pick up on the awkward stage moment posting clips of the video online and commenting it was "not a good evening" for the Senator.

Cruz suspended his campaign for the Republican nomination after a heavy loss in the Indiana primary.
