The police are now following two criminal investigations into the Hillsborough disaster. The statistics give a good sense of the scale of these investigations.

Operation Resolve is looking into:

  • Gross Negligence Manslaughter

  • Misconduct in public office, perverting the course of justice and laws under the Health and Safety at Work Act and Safety at Sports Ground Act

So far it has carried out:

In total there are 191 staff including 43 police officers seconded to the investigation.

The investigation into Hillsborough is the largest ever carried out by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

It is investigating:

  • Conspiracy to pervert the course of justice

  • Perverting the course of justice

  • Perjury

  • Misconduct in public office

Since the work began in 2012:

5200 police notebooks are among the items seized. They should have been handed in but for different reasons were not.

Stored in garages, sheds and attics many had to be treated by environmental hazard teams because they were so filthy.
