Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was roundly cheered after joining thousands of junior doctors marching through Whitehall.

Addressing protesters outside the Department of Health, he said the NHS was not safe in the hands of a Government more interested in attacking junior doctors than supporting them.

Earlier more than 20,000 junior doctors went on an all-out strike between 8am and 5pm. The same is planned for tomorrow.

Mr Corbyn said: "The Government has an opportunity to settle this, they should get on and do so."

"They are the ones who have behaved in the responsible manner of saying they are there to defend the NHS. That is no way for a secretary of state to behave towards one of the most crucial elements of the NHS workforce,” he added.

Amid a chorus of boos directed towards Jeremy Hunt, Mr Corbyn added: “Don’t worry, not all Jeremy’s are bad.”
