A baby gorilla has caught zoo workers and visitors by surprise after its unexpected arrival on Saturday.

The tiny primate's birth caught everyone by surprise as the keepers at Prague Zoo reportedly hadn't realised its mother was pregnant - they had just assumed she was overweight.

Video footage released by the zoo of its newest family member shows the newborn clinging to its mother and cuddling her tightly as proud Shinda, 24, shows her new offspring off to the world.

Visitors to Prague Zoo were allowed to see both mother and baby together on Sunday as the pair got to know each other in their enclosure.

Shinda has had a number of miscarriages in recent years and keepers had put her bump down to being overweight.
