A zoo keeper has been killed by a tiger in Palm Beach, Florida.

Lead tiger keeper Stacey Konwiser, 38, was "involved with an incident" with a male Malayan tiger, in a night house which the public does not have access to, Palm Beach Zoo said in a statement on its Facebook page.

The zoo said it mourns her loss "with great sadness", and added it is an active and ongoing investigation.

The zoo was put on lockdown following the incident, but it insists there was never any danger to members of the public.

It is the first time a person has died while involved in an animal incident in the zoo's history, the zoo said.
