Johnson: Obama is 'hypocritical' to support remain camp

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said it would be "hypocritical" for the US president Barack Obama to use his upcoming visit to the UK to urge Britons to stay in the EU.

President Obama, who has voiced support for the UK to remain in Europe, has indicated that he would offer his view as a "friend" during his two-day visit.

But Johnson, a key player in the Leave campaign, told the Evening Standard it would be "hypocritical" as the US would "not dream of ever" giving up their sovereignty.

Johnson is leading a "Brexit blitz" on the first day of the official campaign with an address in Manchester, ahead of weekend events in Leeds and Newcastle.
