Alton Towers crash victim Vicky Balch walks unaided with prosthetic leg

A woman who lost a leg in the Alton Towers rollercoaster crash is now walking unaided with the help of a state-of-the-art prosthetic leg.

Vicky Balch showed off her bionic leg at the Good Morning Britain studios, walking in alongside host Susanna Reid.

The 20 year old was one of two women to have leg amputations following the crash on the Smiler ride in June last year. Three other people were also seriously injured.

Vicky told GMB the new leg, fitted a few weeks ago, has transformed her life.

"It's just a lot more natural," she said. "I've got a lot more energy so I can go and do things like go see my friends."

She said there were times when she didn't know if she would ever walk again following the crash, adding that if her leg had not been amputated she probably would not be walking now.

Vicky admitted she has had "really bad days" but said she has had great support from the people around her and does not want to "let anyone down".

"I want people to realise that no matter what you have been through you can still do whatever you want," she said.

The Smiler was closed to the public following the crash, but has now reopened.
