A popstar continued to perform for 45 minutes after she was given a fatal bite by a deadly king cobra snake before collapsing on stage and dying from her injuries.

Irma Bule was bitten on the thigh midway through a performance in village of Karawang, West Java, according to local news reports.

The singer, who was known for using reptiles in her shows, wrongly believed the animal had its venomous fangs removed and decided to continue with the concert.

She collapsed on stage with vomiting and seizures after succumbing to the poison and died shortly afterwards, local news sites reported.

Video from the concert captured the moment she was bitten after apparently accidentally stepping on the cobra.

She was briefly seen by a medical staff member at the side of the stage, but reportedly refused the offer of an antidote.

Police have said they are investigating the incident.

King cobras are among the deadliest animal on earth and the amount of poison delivered in a single bite is enough to kill 20 people.

The venom attacks the nervous system, causing respiratory failure and death within as little as half an hour.
