'We don't mind if you touch our breasts' Nando's apologises after 'sexist' ad sparks backlash
Nando's has apologised for a "sexist" advert carrying the message: "We don't mind if you touch our buns, breasts or even our thighs."
The ad, which was published in Indian newspapers, was accompanied by a picture of a splayed chicken with its wings positioned to represent breasts.
It added "Whatever you're into, enjoying any Nando's meal with your hands is always recommended."
Twitter users slammed the ad, accusing the chicken chain of "sexism":
Delhi journalist Neha Sinha told the BBC she felt that while there is no specific mention of women, she felt that the intention of the ad is "clear" and "normalises grabbing a woman."
"It's a universal issue but definitely one that resonates more in India - particularly Delhi, which has the dubious distinction of being the rape capital of the world."
The South African chain, which has restaurants in 30 countries, apologised and said "we promise to do better" in a tweet:
Nando's, which is headquartered in South Africa, told ITV News: "Nandos is vehemently opposed to sexism and we don't condone it in any way. We apologise for the offense caused."
