Toddler dies after visit to dentist

A 14-month-old girl has died after a "routine" visit to the dentist.

Little Daisy Lynn Torres was rushed to hospital when she stopped breathing after being put under anaesthetic.

Despite efforts to save her, she died five hours later.

Family friend Rachel Robinson, who started a fundraising page for Daisy's mother, said the dental visit was for a "routine cavity filling".

Daisy's father Elizandro Torres said: "We are absolutely devastated. She was our little baby girl. She was just going to the dentist and never came home."

The cause of Daisy's death is still unknown and an investigation has been launched.

A spokeswoman for Austin Children's Dentistry in Texas, where the procedure was carried out, called the death a "tragedy".

She added the practice had been in business for 40 years and the routine procedure Daisy had gone in for was "the type they handle all the time".
