'You could feel the heat, you could smell burning', mum describes airport blasts ordeal

A British mother who escaped unscathed from the Brussels airport bombing has spoken of how she clung to her family as blasts erupted either side of them.

Pauline Graystone told ITV News she was at the American Airlines check in counter at Zaventem Airport with her husband and daughter when the first bomb exploded.

She said she grabbed her family and "dropped to the floor" before the second blast was detonated closer to them.

Images of her cowering in the immediate aftermath of the attacks were filmed on amateur footage.

The Director of a Brussels training and consultancy company said at first she did not know what it was when she heard the first explosion.

After the second blast, the three huddled together waiting for a third explosion and after a few minutes ran out of the airport.

Mrs Graystone, who has lived in the Belgian capital for 20 years, visited Bourse Square on Wednesday to pay tribute to those who lost their lives and reflect on her family's luck at escaping unhurt.
