One dead and 11 injured after double-decker bus crash in Scotland

One person has died and 11 people have been injured after a double-decker bus crashed with a 4x4 vehicle in Scotland.

Several passengers have been left critically injured after the crash in North Ayrshire, the Scottish Ambulance Service said.

The vehicles collided on the A78 in Ardrossan at about 2.10pm.

A spokeswoman for Stagecoach, the bus's operator, said on Monday: "We can confirm that one of our vehicles was involved in a serious incident this afternoon on the A78 near Ardrossan.

"The service involved was the Service 585 from Greenock to Ayr.

"Our first thoughts are with those affected by this incident.

"The safety of our passengers and staff is our highest priority and we are assisting the police fully with their investigation into the circumstances."

According to a police spokesman, two people have were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

"Nine others have been treated at the scene or transferred to Crosshouse Hospital for observations," he said.
