Worker dies after falling from 53rd floor of skyscraper

A construction worker has died after falling from the 53rd floor of a skyscraper he was working on.

The electrician, who was only on his second day on the job, reportedly plummeted some 800ft from the LA high-rise and landed on a passing car below.

Eyewitness Elsie Martine told NBC News the whole thing had been a big shock and "the only thing we saw over from the window was a body laying on the floor."

Police said they are treating the fall, which happened at 12.30pm local time at the site of the Wilshire Grand in downtown LA, as "a tragic workplace accident".

The driver of the car that the unnamed man landed on was taken to hospital and is reportedly in a stable condition.
