Footballer 'caught urinating in beer glass' at Cheltenham Festival

A Championship footballer has seemingly been photographed urinating into a beer glass at the prestigious Cheltenham Festival.

MK Dons have launched an investigation into the pictures, which appear to show midfielder Samir Carruthers relieving himself on a balcony while surrounded by other race goers.

The images, published in The Sun newspaper, then show a glass of liquid being poured over the railing by another man.

Carruthers, aged 22, wearing a grey flat cap and waistcoat, is seen grinning as the cup is poured away.

Cheltenham Racecourse said they had cancelled the group's booking for Wednesday.

A spokesman for MK Dons said that while Carruthers was involved, neither he nor any other of the club's players threw the liquid over the balcony.

"The club is aware of pictures circulating in the national media of one of its players at the Cheltenham Festival," it said in a statement.

"The club has commenced an internal investigation into the matter."

Cheltenham Racecourse tweeted: "In regards to images of inappropriate behaviour from yesterday, we have cancelled their booking for today."

The four-day festival is one of the highlights of the horse racing season, with Zara Philips among the well-heeled guests at this year's event.

Tickets to some of the exclusive enclosures can cost more than £700 a day.

MK Dons midfielder Carruthers has since apologised for his behaviour at the Cheltenham Festival and told Sky Sports News he had "let the club down massively".
