The Eagles of Death Metal singer Jesse Hughes has apologised after suggesting that security guards at the Bataclan theatre may have played a role in the terrorist attacks that killed 89 concergoers.

The singer said his accusations were "absurd" and asked for forgiveness in a statement that said he was still suffering trauma from the attacks during his band's concert.

He also said his statements did not reflect the views of his fellow band members saying: "The shame is 100% mine."

A total of 130 people were killed in a series of attacks in Paris on 13 November. The majority of the dead were gunned down in the Bataclan theatre, where the Eagles of Death Metal were playing.

Hughes said he was still suffering from “non-stop nightmares” as he struggled to come to terms with the tragedy, which he said had affected his thinking.
