The Sun 'completely confident' over Queen backs Brexit story
The Sun's Editor Tony Gallagher has mounted a strong defence of a story in his newspaper that claims Her Majesty expressed anti-European Union views during a private meeting.
Buckingham Palace has launched a complaint with the press watchdog over the story, which appeared under the headline "The Queen backs Brexit"
Mr Gallagher says he is in no doubt the report is accurate.
"Multiple sources - two sources to be precise - came to us with information about the Queen and her views on the EU and we would have been derelict in our duty if we didn't put them in the paper. It's as simple as that," he told the BBC Radio 4 Today programme.
Mystery surrounds the sources of reports of the Queen's remarks, which were apparently made in a row with former Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, as ITV News Royal Correspondent Tim Ewart reports.
