Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have claimed the biggest victories on Super Tuesday - the biggest single day of voting in the US - each winning their nominations in seven of the 12 states up for grabs.

In the Democrat race, Clinton won in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

Her rival Bernie Sanders claimed victory in Colorado, Minnesota, Oklahoma and his home state of Vermont.

Meanwhile, for the Republicans, billionaire Donald Trump won in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Vermont and Virginia.

Chief rivals Ted Cruz won two - Texas and Oklahoma - and Marco Rubio took Minnesota - his first win of the entire campaign.

The results in Alaska have yet to be announced.
