After Oscars gaffe, Dustin Lance Black tells Sam Smith: Stop texting Tom Daley
Dustin Lance Black has publicly lambasted Sam Smith for wrongly claiming that he was the first openly gay man to win an Academy Award and has told the singer to stop texting his fiance, Olympic diver Tom Daley.
Accepting his award for Writing’s on the Wall, the theme song for the last Bond film Spectre, Smith said:
But other openly gay men have won an Oscar and Lance Black is among them.
Lance Black triumphed in the best original screenplay category for Milk in 2009.
The screenwriter was clearly angered by Smith's claim, tweeting a link to his acceptance speech from seven years ago.
Black, who got engaged to Daley in October, also said: "It may be time to stop texting my fiance."
Smith has not yet responded to Black's tweet.
His publicists declined to comment when approached by ITV News.
