Donald Trump pledges to 'load up' Guantanamo Bay with 'bad dudes'
Republican US presidential candidate Donald Trump says the US should keep Guantanamo Bay detention centre open in Cuba and “load it up” with some “bad dudes”.
He was responding to President Barack Obama’s proposals to close the highly controversial prison “once and for all”, which he outlined to Congress today.
Mr Obama said he was making one last effort to close the centre, and that following its closure the remaining detainees there would be transferred to the US.
But Donald Trump denied that this would happen, suggesting the Cuban government take over Guantanamo Bay, and reimburse the US for “paying rent”.
He also said he could keep the detention centre open and run it for a "tiny fraction" of the current cost.
