BT internet and phone outage 'not a malicious attack'

BT has confirmed that there is no evidence to suggest that a major outage across its broadband and phone network was caused by a malicious attack on their services.

It comes after the company suffered major technical issues this afternoon which left customers across the country venting their frustrations on Twitter after being left without services for more than two hours.

A spokesperson for the company said that large numbers of customers had "experienced" temporary issues with their broadband services and claimed the problem had been fixed by about 5pm.

Some customers were still reporting issues after the company reported services were working again.
