Nasa's Mars mission sends back stunning interactive 360 video from the Red Planet

Nasa's Mars mission has produced an interactive video giving a stunning 360 degree view from the surface of the Red Planet.

The video is from Nasa's Curiosity Mars Rover, part of the US space agency's Mars exploration programme,

Nasa posted it on the Curiosity Mars Rover Facebook page with the caption: "Use your smart phone to explore Mars with me in 360 degrees. #FromWhereIStand"

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg also posted the video on his page, noting it had been produced using 360 degree video developed by Facebook's video team and saying it was "just the beginning of what we can do with virtual reality and 360 video".

Viewers can spin the camera to explore the landscape of Mars.

While the film provides an opportunity to see extraordinary images of the Red Plant, some of the more distinct images are inevitably of Curiosity itself.

Earlier the photogenic probe snapped a panoramic selfie, an image made up of 57 different photographs taken while the vehicle was climbing a rise.

Curiosity has been on Mars since August 2012.
