Gales and damaging gusts of 80-90mph

A noisy and restless nights sleep for some of us as howling winds whip up.

Storm Henry will pass to the north of our shores in the coming hours - the winds reaching their peak tonight and into the small hours with gales and gusts of 40-50mph in the south and gusts of 80-90mph in the north - bringing some disruption and big battering waves around the coasts with potential damage to power supplies and infrastructure.

Colder air will mean some sleet and snow across high ground of Scotland. For all of us a chillier night but the strong winds will keep any fog, frost and ice at bay.

Tomorrow it'll remain windy first thing - with gusty downpours across Scotland and remaining western counties - some sleety snow for higher hill tops. Elsewhere drier and brighter away from the Channel coasts which will be prone to more cloud and some patchy rain at times.

Generally a chilly feel to the day and staying blustery with the strongest winds slowly easing through the afternoon.

Staying breezy on Wednesday with more sunshine but feeling chilly.
