Mother wears pyjamas for school run in defiance of headteacher's nightwear 'ban'
A headteacher's request to parents to stop wearing their night clothes on the school run has divided opinion at a primary school in Darlington.
Mother Karen Routh chose to ignore the appeal, wearing pyjamas and slippers to take her child to school this morning.
Ms Routh told ITV News Tyne Tees that her bedtime attire was a result of running late due to feeling unwell.
She explained that she doesn't normally wear them, but said that she doesn't agree with headteacher Kate Chisholm that it sets a bad example.
Getting her child to school is her priority, she said.
Ms Chisholm wrote to parents asking them to stop wearing their nightwear when they pick up and drop off their children.
She said she made the appeal after noticing a nightwear trend among parents - with some even attending assemblies and meetings in pyjamas and slippers.
The plea was met with differing opinion among parents
More than 85% of people voted for pyjamas to be banned on the school run in an online poll conducted by ITV News Tyne Tees.
And Ms Chisholm said that despite some negative publicity, she would send the letter again.
