Woman gives birth to own grandchild after being surrogate for daughter
A 54-year-old woman has given birth to her own grandchild after being a surrogate for her daughter.
Tracey Thompson offered to carry her daughter Kelley McKissack's baby after the 28-year-old suffered years of infertility including three miscarriages.
And Kelley finally got her wish when her mum delivered a healthy baby girl, named Kelcey, who was born on January 6 weighing 6lbs and 11oz.
Even though Tracey was seven years past menopause, doctors were able to implant an embryo in her womb using advanced reproductive technology.
Dr Joseph Leveno, of The Medical Center of Plato in Texas who carried out the procedure, called it a "miracle".
Tracey, who also has a son aged 30, said it was a "blessing" she could do this for her daughter.
Speaking about the experience, Kelley said: "My lovely mum gave me the best gift I could ever have in my life.
"You have friends, and there are many women who are willing to do it.
"I just want people to know, you can have your biological child still."
