Mary Logie: Pensioner, 82, battered to death with rolling pin in 'brutal and horrific' attack in her own home
A defenceless pensioner has been battered to death with a rolling pin in a "brutal" and "horrific" attack in her own home.
Mary Logie, 82, was found dead in her living room by a concerned neighbour at around 8pm on Tuesday in Leven, Fife.
The mother-of-three had suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Scottish Ambulance Service.
Police believe theft may have been the motive for the attack but have found no sign of forced entry - leading officers to consider whether she knew her killer.
The churchgoer's family described her as a "beloved mother, grandmother and friend will be sadly missed".
"She was born, bred and lived in the Leven area all her life.
"The family are assisting the police in the investigation and wish to be left alone at this difficult time."
Ms Logie was last seen speaking to neighbours at around 8am on Tuesday morning but failed to arrive as scheduled to visit a friend in hospital.
Detective Chief Inspector Keith Hardie, senior investigating officer, said efforts were ongoing to piece together what happened in the 12-hour period between when she was last seen and when she was found dead.
Calling for anyone with information to come forward, he added: "Whoever is responsible for Mary's death preyed on a vulnerable and elderly member of the community and we are pursuing various lines of inquiry.
"I would ask that anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious in the Green Gates area in the days and hours before Mary was found contacts police immediately."
Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
