Jason Day's wife Ellie taken to hospital after court-side collision with LeBron James

Golfer Jason Day's wife Ellie was stretchered away from a basketball match in a neck brace after LeBron James crashed into her at court-side.

Mrs Day was sitting in the front row with her major-winning husband when Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron dived for a loose ball late in the game.

LeBron stopped the ball from going out, but the 18 stone forward smashed head-first into Mrs Day.

She received medical attention for several minutes before being fitted with a neck brace. She was then carried out of the Quicken Loans Arena on a stretcher and taken to hospital, accompanied by her husband, the current world number two.

LeBron apologised for the incident following his side's 104-100 win over Oklahoma City on Thursday night.

He said: "I was going for a loose ball trying to keep the possession going and I hate that was the end result of it. Obviously her health is very important."

Despite the collision, LeBron said he felt the court-side seats were "a great experience" for fans.

He said: "I mean that doesn't happen much. It's unfortunate it happened tonight but that doesn't happen much. Sitting court-side, it's all part of the game. It's pretty cool."

Last month, Mrs Day gave birth to the couple's second child, Lucy.

Her husband was previously ranked number one in the world and won the PGA Championship this year, his first major victory.

There was no immediate report on her condition, but it was not thought to be serious.
