Donald Trump calls for 'total and complete shutdown' of Muslims entering America
All Muslims should be stopped from entering the United States until officials understand where their "hatred" for Americans comes from, Donald Trump has said.
The Republican Presidential candidate said the hatred was "beyond comprehension" and that there should be a "total and complete shutdown" until authorities figure out "what is going on".
Mr Trump cited research claiming that 25% of respondents agreed that violence against Americans in the US "is justified as a part of the global jihad".
Mr Trump said: "Without looking at the various polling data, it is obvious to anybody the hatred is beyond comprehension.
"Where this hatred comes from and why we will have to determine.
"Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life."
Ibraham Hooper, director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said: "We're entering into the realm of the fascist now.
"It should be disturbing not only to American Muslims, but it should be disturbing to all Americans that the leading Republican presidential candidate would issue essentially a fascist statement like this."
