Storm Desmond: Public raises £260,000 for flood victims
Members of the public have raised over £260,000 after a £1 million appeal was launched to help people across northern England affected by flooding caused by Storm Desmond.
The Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund 2015, launched by the Cumbria Community Foundation, aims to contribute to clean-up costs, emergency repairs, clothing, food and drink, heating and other items for individuals and families who already struggle financially.
It has kicked off the appeal with a donation of £50,000 from its own funds and is asking people who can help to give generously.
Priority for the funds will be given to households with people aged over 70, aged under five, people with physical or learning difficulties or mental health needs or on a low income.
Details of how people affected by flooding can apply for an initial hardship grant of £500 will be released on Monday.
