Microsoft founder Bill Gates pledges to $7 billion green energy research fund

Bill Gates has said that he and a group of other investors are pledging the £4.6 billion ($7bn) to research into clean energy sources.

The Microsoft co-founder announced the investment as part of a larger initiative with world governments that are promising to double spending on renewable energy research.

The fund will support a wide range of technologies, Mr Gates said at the Paris climate talks - "biofuels, carbon capture, high wind, fission, fusion - we're unbiased but it has to be clean and possible to scale up cheaply".

ITV News at Ten Presenter Tom Bradby spoke with the billionaire philanthropist about what some future green energy technology breakthroughs might look like.
