Former London mayor Ken Livingstone has said British troops are "too discredited" to enter Syria, suggesting that Chinese forces should go instead.

Speaking on LBC Radio, Livingstone expressed support for Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn's stance, arguing that bombing could not work without boots on the ground in Syria.

The Prime Minister has rubbished the claim, saying he had "the highest possible regard for British Armed Forces."

Speaking at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Malta, David Cameron said: "The person who frankly seems to be letting himself down is Ken Livingstone with the remarks that he makes," he added.
