Zoolander 2 faces backlash from trans rights activists

The Zoolander sequel has caused outrage after a new trailer was released featuring an androgynous model played by Benedict Cumberbatch.

LGBT activists have called for a boycott on the film on the grounds of transphobia.

In the trailer, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are introduced to Cumberbatch's character, named "All", who has been dubbed the "biggest supermodel in the world".

Owen Wilson’s character, Hansel McDonald, asks: "I think he’s asking if you have a hot dog or a bun."

The model gasps, then gives a high-pitched giggle and says “ooops”.

Critics say the character makes a "cartoonish mockery" of transgender, androgyne and non-binary individuals.

An online petition has been signed by more than 10,000 supporters calling for a boycott of the film.

ITV News has contacted Paramount Pictures for comment.
