Jon Snow forced to say 'I have never been dead' after Game of Thrones brings namesake back from the dead
Game of Thrones has finally confirmed television's worst-kept secret - Jon Snow will make a comeback.
Conspiracy theorists have been speculating about the much-loved character's fate since the summer when Snow, played by Kit Harington, appeared to meet an untimely demise in the season five finale.
And now, the show's official Twitter account has released the first promotional image for the forthcoming series, due to air in April 2016, featuring an apparently bloodied but alive Jon Snow.
The poster inevitably sent Twitter into a frenzy and Jon Snow soon started trending.
But many appeared to in fact "know nothing" and managed to confuse the Channel 4 News presenter Jon Snow with his fictional namesake.
Snow had to clarify that he has "never been dead" and is in fact just a journalist.
"I am alarmed that my namesake has me trending!" he tweeted.
Mexican news site El Universal was among those fooled, tagging the journalist in a tweet about the story.
Others said they believed the presenter had been involved in another "barney with a politician" when they saw his name trending.
It is not the first time the presenter has poked fun at his link to the hit HBO show.
Last week, Snow tweeted a picture of himself sitting in the infamous Iron Throne last week with the caption: "Winter must be coming!"
And Jon Snow did in fact interview Jon Snow for a segment on Channel 4 News in April last year.
