Hotpoint 'to recall some tumble dryers over fire risk', ITV News learns
ITV News has learned that one of Britain's biggest domestic appliance firms is about to recall some of its most popular products.
It has safety concerns about some Hotpoint and Indesit tumble dryers.
The company has already started to call some of its customers to warn them.
These are some of the biggest brands in household appliances - we are talking about top-selling products.
So this is something thousands may need to know.
We have learned that a major recall is about to start due to a potential risk to customers and their homes.
The recall (the company prefers the term "repair programme") will include batches of Aquarius tumble dryers.
A fire risk has been identified.
Customers with affected models will be warned not to use them unattended.
Owners will be offered a free repair taking less than an hour, which can be done in the home.
The company is working with Trading Standards but won't at this stage tell us the full model and serial numbers affected.
We do know they have booked national newspaper space for an announcement next week.
The company cannot say how long people may have to wait before they are visited by an engineer to make the repair.
