Rugby world unites in tribute for Jonah Lomu

The rugby world has taken to social media to pay tribute to All Black great Jonah Lomu, who has died unexpectedly aged 40.

New Zealand's Rugby World Cup winning fly half Dan Carter said on Twitter: "I still can't believe the sad news. Love & thoughts go out to Jonahs family #RIPJonah"

England's own World Cup winner Jonny Wilkinson said he was "devastated" by the loss of such a "fabulous human being".

Former Wales cross-code international and BBC commentator Jonathan Davies also tweeted his condolences.

Former England captain Will Carling posted a photo of himself with Lomu taken just three weeks ago at Twickenham.

Sale Sharks player Danny Cipriani said: "Jonah Lomu and Christian Cullen are the reason I picked up a rugby ball - JL was a legend and a true inspiration who kept fighting."

The southern hemisphere Super Rugby organisation also posted a photograph to Instagram of Lomu in his iconic '11' shirt.

The New Zealand All Blacks also posted an image of the rampaging winger in his pomp, as he leaves England's Rob Andrew clutching at thin air during the 1995 RWC semi final in South Africa.
