I have just walked for around half a mile along Boulevard Richard Lenoir and around the cordon which now surrounds the Bataclan.

It is a walk littered from start to finish with the evidence of the fight to save lives.

Blood-soaked gloves, ventilation equipment, bandages and abandoned shoes litter the way.

How far such terrible debris is littered is a measure of how many people were in the club when it was attacked.

On my walk I met Denis Plaude, he was in the Bataclan at the time. He described how he ran and hid in an upstairs room with others, as the sound of machine guns reverberated around the building.

He was finally led out after three hours as water poured through parts of the building.

Police told those they were leading to safety not to look as they were taken out. But Denis said it was impossible to avoid the dead and the dying on his route to safety.
