Sir Terry Wogan has pulled out of presenting this year's Children In Need.

According to the BBC the veteran broadcaster will not be presenting the charity fundraiser "due to health reasons".

The 77-year-old, who has hosted the telethon every year since it became a televised event in 1980, confirmed he would be missing the "wonderful, inspiring evening" for the first time but would still be supporting it from afar.

He said:

This year would have been the 36th year that Sir Terry presented Children in Need and although he expressed sadness at missing the show he said it would go on "bigger and better than ever, in the hands of my friends".

Nick Grimshaw, Fearne Cotton, Rochelle Hulmes and Tess Daly had already been named as some of Sir Terry's fellow presenters for the fundraiser but a replacement anchor for the show has not yet been announced.

The BBC said a replacement host will be unveiled before tomorrow night's show as they wished Sir Terry "a speedy recovery".
