Campaign to encourage mums to breastfeed in public
A national campaign has been launched to encourage mothers to feel comfortable breastfeeding in public.
Public Health England said it wanted to "break down the barriers and stigma" around breastfeeding in public with its new Start4Life campaign.
A poll of more than 2,300 people found a third of new mothers have shied away from breastfeeding in public, with 21% feeling other people do not want them to do it.
Six out of 10 new mothers have tried to hide their breastfeeding in public, while 34% have felt embarrassed or uncomfortable.
This is despite the fact 72% of the public support breastfeeding, although not all think restaurants are a good venue.
The survey found that 57% of people felt restaurants were an acceptable venue for breastfeeding, while 51% felt breastfeeding on public transport was okay.
