Dog named Trigger shoots owner in the foot in freak hunting accident
A dog named Trigger has shot his owner in the foot in a freak hunting accident.
The 11-year-old chocolate Labrador stepped on the 12-gauge shotgun after his owner put it on the ground, depressing the trigger.
As the safety catch was not on, bird shot pellets were fired into 25-year-old Allie Carter's left foot.
The bizarre incident happened during a waterfowl hunt on Saturday in northern Indiana, USA.
Ms Carter, of Avilla, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries before being treated and discharged.
She had never completed a hunter education course and the accident prompted officials to remind people to take safety lessons.
In Indiana, people born after December 31, 1986, must take a certified hunter education course before purchasing a hunting license. However, anyone can get up to three apprentice hunter's licenses without taking such a course, if accompanied by a person who has.
Ms Carter had an apprentice licence and will not face any charges.
"We encourage everyone to take a hunter education course before they venture out in the field," said Indiana Conservation Officer Jonathon Boyd.
