'The life's not easy - we're going to be patient,' Syrian refugee tells ITV News after making perilous journey to Europe
ITV News' Europe Editor James Mates has caught up with Syrian refugee Samer Hassnou and his family, who he first met in Hungary last month, following their arrival in Germany.
Samer, who worked as a computer engineer in Damascus, made the treacherous journey with his wife and three children to escape the war in his home country of Syria.
ITV News first met the family six weeks ago when they were camping at Budapest train station in Hungary, which had been transformed into a makeshift refugee camp:
Now Samer and his family have arrived in Germany and are living in an old army base which is being used as a refugee camp and a place to temporarily house refugees as they work their way through the asylum process.
The camp was expected to hold 1,000 people, it now holds three times that number.
Samer told ITV News: "The life's not easy - we're going to be patient."
He said he and his family just want to be granted asylum so he can get on with finding work and building a life in Germany:
