Fresh violence on West Bank after 13-year-old boy is shot dead
Fresh violence has erupted in the West Bank, sparking fears of a new Palestinian uprising.
Clashes between Israeli security forces and Palestinians broke out on Tuesday following the funeral of schoolboy Abed a-Rahman Abdallah.
Thousands turned out in Bethlehem to pay their respects to the 13-year-old and express a sense of outrage after he was shot by Israel security forces.
Shortly after he was laid to rest, boys his age were among those who picked up slingshots and headed towards the lines of security forces, who responded with stun grenades and tear gas.
Palestinians are angry about the aggressive nature of the occupation of Palestine and the West Bank by Israelis.
The rise in tension began in Jerusalem a few weeks ago at the Temple Mount with the violent revival of an old dispute about access to the site, which is sacred to Muslims and Jews.
The resulting violence has led to deaths on both sides, with an Israeli couple, Eitam and Naama Henkin, shot dead last week as they drove between settlements on the West Bank.
Some believe this is the beginning of a third Intifada, with older generations seeing a familiar pattern of violence.
For the young, who have never known a peace process, confrontation is becoming routine.
