Brendan Rodgers sacked by Liverpool
Brendan Rodgers was sacked by Liverpool in the wake of his side's 1-1 derby draw with Everton at Goodison Park.
Liverpool announced on Sunday evening that manager Rodgers, who had been in charge since 2012 but under increasing pressure in recent times, had left the club with immediate effect after having his contract terminated.
Sunday's draw with Everton left Liverpool 10th in the Barclays Premier League standings after eight games.
In a joint Fenway Sports Group statement, Principal Owner John W Henry, Chairman Tom Werner and President Mike Gordon said:
Former Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp is currently the odds-on favourite with bookmakers to be Rodgers' replacement, while ex-Chelsea and -Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is also believed to be in the running.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had his say on the developments at Anfield after his side beat Manchester United 3-0:
Rodgers appeared to have little idea of what was awaiting him as he spoke immediately after today's draw, telling reporters he was not feeling pressure.
Rodgers added: "If we are to replicate what we did two years ago we will have to build something. That will take time. That is frustrating for supporters but there are new players to come in.
"It will take time, whether that is me or someone else. While it is me, I will continue to devote every ounce to the club."
