Cameron: 'People will see straight through Ashcroft's book'
David Cameron has said people "see straight through" a controversial biography of him, which contains a series of damaging allegations.
The book, written by Lord Ashcroft - a wealthy former party donor - and journalist Isabel Oakeshott made a number of claims, including one that he took part in a bizarre student ritual involving a dead pig.
The claim was was dismissed as nonsense by sources close to the Prime Minister.
Ashcroft said he decided to write the book when Cameron failed to reward him with a senior job in government. He had given £8 million to the party whilst it was in opposition and led the drive to win marginal seats.
Responding to the allegations, the Prime Minister told reporters:
The book also alleges Cameron was away of Lord Ashcroft's "non-dom" tax status before coming to power in 2009, prompting Labour ministers to call for him to "come clean" on the issue.
