Jackie Collins gave no indication of how ill she was during her last UK TV appearance. The queen of the racy novel was a guest on the ITV daytime show Loose Women nine days ago.
The programme's main presenter Andrea McLean told ITV News how the team noticed her dramatic weight loss but it was not mentioned.
Jackie was an honorary Loose Women. We interviewed her countless times over the years and in the morning when we knew she was coming in it was, 'Brilliant! jackie's coming in'.
It was quite a shock when she came in and sat down because her weight loss was quite dramatic but it was a live show and we didn't say anything, but something was obviously wrong (different) from the last time we saw her to this time.
I took my lead from her. She didn't make any reference to the fact that she'd had this dramatic weight loss, so I was not going to mention it. It's not professional, it's not ladylike, but the twinkle was still there.
She may have looked a little bit more frail but she was feisty, she was sassy, she was answering some really awkward questions about sex scenes in her novels. Nothing had changed. Jackie, was Jackie.

Loose Woman presenter Andrea McLean McLean says Jackie was her favourite guest on Loose Women and during their last meeting she had pulled the author to one side to tell her this.
" I'm so pleased I did that," Andrea added.
