Sheridan Smith hails 'amazing' Cilla Black at awards show

Sheridan Smith hailed the "amazing" Cilla Black as she won an award for her portrayal of the late singer and entertainer.

Smith, 34, played black in the ITV biopic Cilla, and was presented with the best actress prize at the TV Choice Awards.

The programme had previously picked up the award for best drama performance at the National TV Awards in January, before Black's death.

Other winners at the ceremony in London were Ant and Dec, who scooped prizes for ITV shows Saturday Night Takeaway, I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and Britain's Got Talent.

ITV's Broadchurch was voted best drama series, while star David Tennant was given the best actor award for a second time.

BBC dramas Poldark and Call the Midwife were also recognised as best new drama and best family drama respectively, while Eastenders received the award for best soap.
