Paul Dickov sacked by Doncaster Rovers
Doncaster have sacked manager Paul Dickov, the League One club have announced.
Former Manchester City, Leicester and Blackburn striker Dickov took over at the club in May 2013 but was shown the exit on Tuesday by chairman David Blunt after a disappointing start to the season.
Doncaster have won one of their six opening league games and currently sit 17th in the overall standings.
Defender Rob Jones will replace Dickov on a temporary basis.
The club said in a statement on their official website: "David Blunt, Chairman of Doncaster Rovers Football Club has today confirmed that Paul Dickov has left his position as first team manager based on performance to date.
"The Board are ambitious for a top six finish and that is, and will remain our aim.
"From today Rob Jones will take charge of first team affairs on a temporary basis. The club has full confidence in Rob as we now look forward to a tough game against Walsall this weekend."
The statement added: "The Board of Directors would like to take this opportunity to thank Paul Dickov for his efforts on and off the pitch, and wish him well for the future."
Dickov had 113 games in charge of Doncaster, winning 34 of them after replacing Brian Flynn. They lost 1-0 at Gillingham on Saturday.
